Daily Routine Vocabulary

on October 3, 2011

One of the best ways to stimulate early vocabulary development is during daily routines; narrating what you are doing AND what the child is doing.  There is so much vocabulary based around our daily events.  Bath time: water, wash, splash, sit down, stand up, pour, scrub, wet, dry, clean, dirty, bubbles, pop.  Meal time:  spoon, scoop, fork, stab, plate, food, eat, yummy, more, all done, good, bad, no, yes.  If you keep a constant dialogue going when around your children, they will absorb all the vocabulary you use.  They are always listening (even when not behaving), and they understand much more than we think!
